we WON! …Silver Telly Awards for Season 2!!!

telly_newlogosmalltelly_silverJust got an email that let me know we won a Silver Telly Award for Season 2 of Fish the Baja. The winning Episode was shot with my daughter, Jessica, as we fished for Striped Marlin out of Cabo San Lucas marina aboard the Minerva V. Jessica not only caught her first marlin but hooked a second as well, releasing a 130# Striped Marlin on this bumpy offshore outing! What you didn’t see on the show was that Jessica was very sea sick and was a real trooper to stick it out and reel in some BIG fish!!! Congrats to Jessica, Capt. Pimi Fiol & Deckhand Edgar Chong and of course Minerva Saenz for providing us with the Charter!IMG_8150
While filling out the form for what verbiage I wanted on the statuette plaque I noticed something funny …there was a place for a second plaque and I realized we had won not 1 but 2 -Silver Telly Awards! The second show was the last Episode we shot in Season 2 in Mag Bay on the Pacific side of the Baja! Fishing aboard SUCCESS with Captain Cary Dodson and fly guide extraordinaire Jeff deBrown landing Striped Marlin on the fly and a ton of inshore species in Mag Bay itself. Hosting us for that trip was Mag Bay Outfitters Bob & Diane Hoyt! A great time in a very special place on the Baja! Congrats to cameraman James Drake for shooting a great Episode and speaking of sea sickness, James had come with me Season 1 to Mag Bay and it was not until this shoot that he told me he basically can’t eat aboard a boat! In short he gave up two weeks of eating to film for me …perhaps he deserves the Telly the most!Striped Marlin on the fly aboard SUCCESS in Mag Bay

telly_site_bugs_silverThanks to JJ Slater of Slater Productions in Orlando FL for shooting Minerva’s show and editing both of these Telly Award winning Episodes!!! We have yet a 3rd Episode that was a late nomination that we should know about soon AND we are up for 3 People’s Choice Telly Awards as well. Time to get a BIGGER mantle! Thanks for watching and supporting Fish the Baja!

The Telly Awards was founded in 1979 and is the premier award honoring outstanding local, regional, and cable TV commercials and programs, the finest video and film productions, and online commercials,  video and films. Winners represent the best work of the most respected advertising agencies, production companies, television stations, cable operators, and corporate video departments in the world.

For its 34th season, The Telly Awards once again joined forces with YouTube to give the public the power to view and rate videos submitted as part of the People’s Telly Awards. In addition to recognition from the Silver Telly Council, the judging panel that selects the Telly Awards winners, the Internet community helps decide the People’s Telly Awards winners.

A prestigious judging panel of over 500 accomplished industry professionals, each a past winner of a Silver Telly and a member of The Silver Telly Council, judged the competition, upholding the historical standard of excellence that Telly represents. The Silver Council evaluated entries to recognize distinction in creative work – entries do not compete against each other – rather entries are judged against a high standard of merit. Less than 10% of entries are chosen as Winners of the Silver Telly, our highest honor. Approximately 25% of entries are chosen as Winners of the Bronze Telly.

“The Telly Awards has a mission to honor the very best in film and video,” said Linda Day, Executive Director of the Telly Awards. “5th day productions’ accomplishment illustrates their creativity, skill, and dedication to their craft and serves as a testament to great film and video production”.
